Personal Philosophy
As an essential element in vision, light helps convey the story of all objects around us. Every day as individuals, we see, feel, and associate with light. My role as a lighting designer is to plagiarize this creation of God. I take what I see in nature, I recreate, then use that to inspire and fuel my craft on stage. All my endeavors as a designer are spent researching, experimenting, and developing new and creative methods to make people not only see, but even feel what they see on stage.
As one of many lighting designers in the industry, I strive to stand out and to learn every aspect of all technology that is placed in front of me. From a young age, I’ve always tried to learn new things on my own. I’ve taught myself how to use many lighting boards, lighting technology, and the many techniques that surround it. I’m always hungry to learn more and I’m proud of that characteristic.
To help achieve this, I turn to one of my biggest beliefs: building healthy and productive working relationships in the workplace. When I work at a new site, I tell myself that I will not have worked a successful day without meeting at least one new person. Telling myself this helps push me to create the working relationships that will eventually open new opportunities and help me grow as a professional in this industry.
Being a professional is very important to me. I carry responsibilities such as overseeing workers, time restraints, and communication with designers. I believe that there should always be some level of professionalism and good communication in the workplace so that everyone working on a project can work with maximum efficiency. Respect is equal to this, and should also always be given regardless of position or knowledge.
